The statistics are harrowing: According to current national statistics on sexual violence, one in four women and one in six men will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. One in six women and one in thirty-three men will experience attempted or completed rape in their lifetime, and in eight out of ten rape cases, the victim knows the perpetrator. If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault, there is help. Being sexually assaulted is never the victim’s fault; there is nothing anywhere can do, wear or say that makes them responsible for being attacked. It’s important to remember that sexual assault is motivated by hostility, power and control. OneEighty is the primary service provider for individuals and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault in the area, with a domestic violence shelter, victim advocacy and counseling services available for the victims and their families that we serve.
