“Going to counseling is all encompassing. Weekly counseling keeps me on track just like going to church.”
- From Jo age 68 successful recovery from early childhood abuse and addiction -
Sarah arrived at OneEighty “very, very distraught, and in a dark place.” She was to the point where she wanted her pain to end. She first went to housing, to find some alternative to living in an alcoholic household. The housing department noted Sarah’s extreme distress and requested a counselor to provide crisis intervention. The counselor came immediately. Sarah said, “Just talking about it, knowing I wasn’t by myself, and that it [her distress] was normal without being judged” provided great help. She continues to work on her thoughts, emotions and memories in counseling. Sarah believes that the “biggest change is that I feel stronger about myself, because I’m able to set those boundaries. And I hope I can continue to feel better and get stronger.” Sarah says that for anyone considering coming to OneEighty, “I think it’s the best decision you could possibly make. It saved my life.”
