May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month began in the United States in 1949 and was started by the Mental Health America (MHA) organization (then known as the National Association for Mental Health).

In April, OneEighty asked community members from Wayne and Holmes Counties to commemorate this important month by submitting a Photovoice. Photovoice is an artistic tool used to amplify a community’s voice regarding a particular subject, cause, or issue through photographic images with captions written by the photographers.

Community members, staff and clients submitted photo’s relating to their personal experience with or perception of mental health struggles, mental wellness, or mental health stigma.  These may include – but is not limited to – mental illness and recovery, substance use and recovery, domestic or dating violence, sexual assault, other trauma, or self-care.

OneEighty invites you to a photographic experience with or perception of mental health.
