Tax-Savvy Ways to Give

Your generosity can go even further when you give in ways that also provide tax benefits. Explore options that may allow you to make a bigger impact—while being smart about your finances:

• Gifts of Stock – Avoid capital gains tax and claim a deduction when donating appreciated securities.

• Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) Charitable Gifts – If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a direct gift from your IRA that counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) but isn’t taxed as income.
  • A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows individuals to transfer funds from their IRA to a charitable institution, such as OneEighty.  A contribution to OneEighty is an easy and convenient way to make a tax-free.  It can be excluded from your gross income and counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
  • For contributions to qualify, transfer must go directly from your IRA to OneEighty.  Your total IRA contribution(s) in one year cannot exceed $108,000.
  • Please note: For a QCD to count toward the current year's RMD, the funds must come out of your IRA by your RMD deadline, which is generally December 31 each year.

• Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) – Recommend a gift from your DAF today and support causes you care about.
  • OneEighty accepts donations through DAF.  Pledges to OneEighty are legally non-binding, so, DAF distributions may go toward a pledge with OneEighty.  Please work with your fund advisor for the appropriate forms.  Please notify us if you make a DAF gift, in case the sponsoring organization does not share your information.

• Planned Giving – Leave a legacy through your will, trust, or estate plan.
  • We would be honored if you included OneEighty in your will, trust, or estate plan.
  • Did you Know?
    • Human beneficiaries of traditional IRA are taxed on the funds they inherit from an IRA.  However, nonprofit organizations, such as OneEighty, are not taxed on beneficiary from an IRA.  Consider leaving your IRA to charity and other assets you hold to your loved ones instead.
